A municipality with a great historical legacy, as its lands have been inhabited since Neolithic times, as can be seen in the dolmen of La Aldehuela. Celtiberians, Romans, Visigoths and Arabs have populated this town, as can be seen from the numerous archaeological remains found throughout the municipality, such as the Bronze Age settlement on the Castrejón hill.

Its cultural heritage also includes the late Gothic Church of San Bartolomé (16th century), considered to be the "Sistine Chapel of the Jara" due to the fresco paintings by the Russian painter Wladimir Strashko.

This town, popularly known as Aldeanovita, has a landscape of great value where visitors can enjoy various hiking trails near the town centre and appreciate its rich archaeological and natural heritage.

What to see?

Parish Church of San Bartolomé Apóstol (16th century)

Parish Church from the 16th century, dedicated to Saint Bartholomew the Apostle, built in the late Gothic style. It has an interesting Mudejar coffered ceiling and is known as "The Sistine Chapel of the Jara" due to some fresco paintings by the Russian painter Wladimir Strashko, which depict scenes from the life and martyrdom of Saint Bartholomew. Also noteworthy is its Gothic baptismal font, made of sandstone in a single piece. The bell tower has three semicircular arches with granite balls in the eaves called "half pearls".


Stela del Guerrero

The warrior's funerary stele is a slate boat with engravings of a warrior with a chariot and weapons from the Roman period.
