A municipality that has been inhabited since pre-Roman times but of which hardly any archaeological remains remain. It was in Roman times when the presence of settlers was at its strongest due to the construction of a watchtower that would later be used by Muslims until the Christian reconquest when it became the tower of the first church in this town, substantially modifying the architectural elements of previous eras.

A town that preserves several monuments of popular and livestock architecture, as this village is crossed by the Cañada Real Leonesa Oriental and its origin is linked to the passage of livestock through these lands, being a place to water the animals. Almendral enjoys a spectacular and rich natural environment, characteristic of this region, with a large number of rivers and streams that give it such an important feature in its landscape, a wealth of water that has led to the construction of numerous mills throughout its territory, better known as maquileros mills, as well as several natural springs.

Hiking enthusiasts can enjoy pleasant walks through nature along trails such as the Viriato trail (GR-63) or the royal cattle track itself. Trails that will allow visitors to discover a magnificent natural environment with unique species of flora and fauna in the province.
