CALDERONIAN DAYS IN YEPES (2023)

FESTIVAL OF REGIONAL TOURIST INTEREST TO TAKE PLACE IN THE VILLAGE OF YEPES BETWEEN 2 AND 11 JUNE

The Jornadas Calderonianas are inaugurated each year with a presentation and conference with the participation of important personalities from the world of literature, specialists in classical theatre, ecclesiastical personalities who contribute their vision and the importance of the feast of Corpus Christi and representatives of local and regional administrations;

A JOURNEY TO THE YEPES DE CALDERÓN TO LEARN ABOUT THE HISTORY, CUTURE, HERITAGE AND TRADITIONS OF THIS TOLEDAN MUNICIPALITY

Yepes, known as El Toledillo de la Mancha, opens its doors to welcome D. Pedro Calderón de la Barca, who, hired by the Brotherhood of the Blessed Sacrament, writes the auto sacramental “The Magical Prodigy” to be performed at the Corpus Christi of 1637. On the occasion of such an important event for the town, the Calderonian Days are born, with the dramatised routes “A Journey through the Yepes of Calderón” which aim to make known in an attractive way for the visitor the culture, history and heritage of La Muy Leal Villa de Yepes.

A FEAST THAT HAS BEEN REPRESENTING THE SACRAMENTAL AUTO “THE MAGICAL PRODIGEST” SINCE THE 17th CENTURY;

Over the course of a week, different events take place in the Auditorium of the town’s Cultural Centre, inside the Parish Church and even in the streets of the town itself; One of them is the representation of an Auto Sacramental, in memory of “El Mágico Prodigioso” that Calderón de la Barca dedicated to this beautiful city.

A BAROQUE FESTIVAL, WHICH TAKES US BACK TO THE SPANISH GOLDEN CENTURY, JOINING THE PROFANE WITH THE RELIGIOUS, AROUND THE BEAUTIFUL HERITAGE OF THIS VILLA

The Calderonian Days have become a Baroque festival, so that over the course of a month different religious and cultural events related to the Golden Age take place, with the Corpus Christi Procession and the Dramatised Routes “A Journey through Calderon’s Yepes” being the most outstanding events; With this festivity, Yepes intends that the religious and the profane come together to show the most deeply rooted traditions hidden behind the stones of its walls.
