The Romans were the first to occupy their lands according to the archaeological remains found in the area and its surroundings, although it was not until the Arab period that a more continuous settlement began. The 12th century marked a change of trend with the Christian repopulation and the town of Cedillo began to shape its urban structure, the peak of which came in the 15th and 16th centuries. During these centuries, in addition to the construction of the church of the Nativity, the town centre was completed with mansions and palaces of popular architecture but of great beauty and historical significance, such as the 17th century palace of the Counts of Cedillo. These are corners with an old-fashioned flavour that allow visitors to enjoy a peaceful stroll through a characteristic rural environment.

The municipality of Cedillo del Condado is a rather flat terrain, although it is dotted with small hills and low hills, with important plantations of olive trees and, above all, cereals and vines. No river crosses it, although there are several streams with greater or lesser flow, some of them dry all year round. Travelling through its plains is to enjoy the immensity of the Sagreña plateau, several paths cross its lands so that the visitor can go hiking or on bicycle rides.

What to see?

Parish Church of Ntra. Sra. de la Natividad

Mudejar style church built on top of an existing church. The church was built on top of the one that already existed, as there is evidence of the parish church of Cedillo as early as the Middle Ages. Construction began on 21 March 1584 and was completed on 27 May 1588. In the 17th century a major extension was made. A lightning strike partially destroyed the church, seriously affecting the tower, especially one of the bell holes, reaching the door that was originally the main entrance, as the one that now exists as such gave access to the cemetery attached to the church, which disappeared in the 19th century, when epidemics made it necessary to move the cemeteries away from the villages. The roof of the tower was also modified by raising it above the tiled roof it must have had originally.

Hermitage of Santiago Apóstol

It is part of the cemetery complex, located on its western side. The enclosure is made of whitewashed brick and rammed earth, the roof is made of arabic tiles.

Palace of the Counts of Cedillo

A 17th century Renaissance-style mansion house.
