Iron, steel, silver, gold, brass, copper, tinplate… metals and alloys which, in the hands of the craftsman, are transformed into beautiful objects which are the undisputed stars of the craftsmanship scene in the province of Toledo.
Damascene was applied on weapons and armour, and later on all kinds of decorative objects, later on all kinds of decorative objects.
Bidri, caelatura or ataujía are just some of the names given to the art of damascene before the art of damascene painting became popular. The product of this craft, in which the gold or silver thread is fitted onto other metals of lesser value – iron or bronze – often becomes a true work of art, often becomes a true work of art.
Today the workshops, which are mainly concentrated in the city of Toledo, produce precious jewellery that has made the damascene from Toledo one of the most highly prized in the world.
