EL BORRIL, A NATURAL SPACE TO ENJOY FAMILY TOURISM AND ECOTOURISM

The Environment and Rural World Service of the Provincial Council of Toledo makes available to all citizens the Aula de Naturaleza “El Borril”. available to all citizens the Nature Classroom “El Borril”, which is open to all the public who wish to who wish to get to know the resources offered by this environmental facilities and discover the richness of the Mediterranean Mediterranean scrubland typical of the region in which it is located.
The facilities that can be visited are as follows:
“Path of the Animals”.
Aquaterrarium.
Farm animals.
The walk along the “Path of the Animals”, the main attraction of the visit, has an estimated duration of 2 hours, being necessary to start it before 12:00 noon.
A DIDACTIC VISIT FOR SCHOOLS TO OFFER AN ALTERNATIVE CONTACT OF THE YOUNGEST WITH THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT OF THE MOUNTAINS OF TOLEDO.
The visit is aimed at students from 3rd to 6th year of Primary Education, Secondary and Baccalaureate of educational centres in the province of Toledo. Schools in other provinces should make their reservations as of October 1.
Visits will take place from Tuesdays to Fridays, from October 2024 to May of 2025. The duration of the visit is 3 hours (from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) if you only take the Animal Trail or 4 hours (from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) if you also take the Environmental Workshops. For any modification of this schedule, it is necessary to contact the center to consult the conditions.
EL BORRIL, A NATURAL AREA AND BIODIVERSITY TYPICAL OF THE MEDITERRANEAN CLIMATE OF THE MOUNTAINS OF TOLEDO TO ENJOY FAMILY TOURISM AND ECOTOURISM.
The El Borril estate is owned by the Diputación de Toledo and covers an area of 450 hectares, where animal habitats coexist with an extensive agricultural and forestry area in which agricultural and livestock work is carried out. El Borrril, which has been declared a Wildlife Refuge since 2011 and belongs to the Network of Environmental Education Facilities of Castilla-La Mancha, is dedicated to environmental education, conservation of the natural environment, raising awareness of the Mediterranean forest and environmental research in general.
The farm is home to the “El Borril” Nature Classroom, which runs an educational program for primary and secondary school students in the province of Toledo, as well as being available to associations, groups and individuals. In the farm there are different habitats of animals of our environment and typical of Los Montes de Toledo, which can be known by walking the “Path of the animals”, to reach the habitats of the wolf, deer, rabbit, fox, wild boar, fallow deer, genet, mouflon, mountain goat, Barbary sheep, dormouse, and birds such as ducks, partridge and quail.
The aquaterrarium gathers amphibians, toads, salamanders or gallipatos; and reptiles such as snakes, leprosy turtles and skinks, from the aquaterrarium. And you can also learn about the domestic animals of a farm, of different native breeds such as horses, goats, donkeys, cows, pigs, domestic rabbits, common turkeys and chickens of different native Spanish breeds. It should be remembered that all the species were caught in the natural environment, with the corresponding authorizations.
NUMEROUS ACTIVITIES, OPEN TO ALL PUBLICS, TO LEARN AND DISCOVER THE SECRETS OF THE FLORA AND FAUNA OF THE ENVIRONMENT OF THE FINCA EL BORRIL
Different activities to learn occupations and jobs related to the environment or simply to know and learn about the flora and fauna that surrounds the Finca El Borril
Activities such as visiting an educational apiary to learn all about the exciting world of bees, with a guide who will explain their biology, behavior and ecological and socioeconomic importance. To get to know the birds that inhabit the different ecosystems of our province, learning about their curiosities and characteristics, in a first more theoretical part. Then, equipped with binoculars and telescope, a route through the forest of El Borril is made to recognize them in the field, a start for those who want to enter the fascinating world of ornithological tourism.
Other activities include routes to more inaccessible parts of this farm but of great ecological value or thematic routes on tracking to understand that a well-preserved forest is home to many more animals than we think. Species that are very elusive and difficult to observe such as martens, genets, lynx, otters, etc. Through the signs they leave us, we can detect their presence and learn more about them.
