MEDIEVAL DAYS OF OROPESA
XXII JORNADAS MEDIEVALES DE OROPESA, UNA VUELTA A LA EDAD MEDIA DURANTE LOS DÍAS 21, 22 Y 23 DE ABRIL DE 2023.
With the castle as the epicenter, the activities are distributed in various locations: the Navarro square, Palenque, the chapel of San Bernardo, the Viceroy’s gardens, the church square, the Paseo Bajo or the Parador Gardens. Jugglers, snake tamers, acrobats, goblins and jesters mingle with visitors and neighbors, practically all dressed in period costume. More than 30,000 people visit the town to enjoy these days.

The Medieval Days of Oropesa have been held for more than a decade to commemorate the granting to the town, by Alfonso XI, of the privilege of holding a market during the month of April. For three days, the streets are filled with stalls, performances, parades, competitions, exhibitions, workshops, horse tournaments, music, etc. Among all, the most important and most anticipated event by visitors and neighbors is the “Rescue of the Princess”.
In some performances it is necessary to present the commemorative coin of the conference, which has a price of two euros, and also serves to use a shuttle service from the parking lots to the center of the town.

A DAY TO COMMEMORATE THIS YEAR 2023 THE CENTENARY OF ITS CASTLE AS A HISTORICAL MONUMENT
The castle of Oropesa, which was listed as a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1923, is actually formed by two castles joined together, the old castle an Arab fortress only partially preserved (12th and 13th century) and the new castle or so-called castle of the Álvarez de Toledo (15th century). 15th century). Regarding the old castle, we must point out that it is a rectangular building flanked at its corners by four circular towers of which only two remain today. The 15th century castle is also rectangular in plan with different towers at its corners. One of them, the homage, is square and has five floors. Another highlight of this new castle is its parade ground, a large place that houses all the infrastructure of the fortress. The fabric of the building is stone. Ashlar is used in the walls and ashlars in the most visible places. At present, the castle is owned by the city council and houses, next to the county palace, a national parador hotel.

This spectacular Dance of the ArchesThe dancers hold half a bow of flowers with one hand, moving only their feet, as well as the Dance of the Flag in front of the picture of the Virgin, which is performed at the door of the chapel, although this time the dancers are the ones in charge of dancing it. “Sargentos y Mochilleres”, who are a kind of army dressed in period costume and who also act as custodians of the Virgin.

JORNADAS CERVANTINAS DE EL TOBOSO
What better place than where the Dulcinea bride of El Quijote to return to the century of the Knight of the Sad Figure. The locals will welcome us dressed in Cervantes costumes, and the genius of Don Miguel will seduce us in the streets and squares with theatrical performances, Cervantes days, period markets, exhibitions and even Don Quixote and Sancho themselves entering El Toboso.

During these days, cultural events and plays are performed in the streets and the most picturesque corners of the town, where visitors can enjoy the plays while they walk around El Toboso admiring its monuments and typical façades.

In the Cervantes atmosphere, the people of El Toboso and its people participate in all the events dressed in the typical Cervantes costume creating an atmosphere, particular to the people of Tobos. It is possible to listen to the songs of night comedians, theatrical performances and taste typical Manchegan dishes such as ratatouille, pickled partridges, tiznao, duelos y quebrantos, gachas, mojete, migas de pastor and lamb stew, not forgetting our wines, “Campos de Dulcinea” and “Quiñon de Rosales”, produced under the denomination of origin La Mancha;

FESTIVAL OF EXALTATION OF THE OLIVE TREE AND OLIVE OIL WITH D.O. MONTES DE TOLEDO WHICH WILL TAKE PLACE 29, 30 APRIL AND 1 MAY IN THE TOWN OF MORA
The original fiesta of Mora has its origins in the private celebrations that each farmer used to hold at the end of the olive harvest, with dancing in his house and decorating his carts with olive branches.
A CELEBRATION OF ETHNOGRAPHIC AND CULTURAL CHARACTER WHOSE MAJOR ATTRACTION IS ITS “CARS PARADE-CONCERT”
