On Sunday, June 9,International Archives Day took place to commemorate the creation of the International Council on Archives by UNESCO in 1948, with the aim of promoting the value of archives in the service of culture, memory and transparency.
On this occasion, the Archive of the Diputación de Toledo will open its doors from June 10 to 14, with various activities to publicize the material it has.
Visitors will be able to enjoy an exhibition of documents from 10:00 to 14:00 hours, as well as guided tours from Monday to Friday at 12:00 hours.
Among other documents on display will be a selection of plans of municipal buildings in the province, drawn during the 19th century and first quarter of the 20th century by provincial architects Santiago Martín Ruiz and Ezequiel Martín Martín Martín: a building for a public school for children of both sexes in Nambroca, today converted into the Town Hall.
Also the municipal public slaughterhouse of Fuensalida, currently a cultural center; or the children’s schools of Torrijos; the children’s school for both sexes and teachers’ house of Villasequilla; children’s school and teacher’s house in Arcicóllar; building for children’s school in La Puebla de Montalbán.
The building for the Menasalbas jail; the municipal cemetery of Villarrubia de Santiago; as well as the plans of the four facades of the Provincial Palace, built between 1882 and 1898, the work of the Quintana Roo architect Agustín Ortiz de Villajos.
Attendees will be able to approach up to a total of twenty plans, including originals and copies.
