This town has been inhabited since Roman times, as evidenced by the Roman bridge that crosses the river Tiétar. Idyllic landscapes and a natural environment of exceptional beauty characterise its municipal district, which together with the richness of its cultural heritage, form a perfect combination to enjoy this municipality.

The land is irrigated by numerous streams, but above all by the Tiétar River, which forms the boundary between the provinces of Toledo and Ávila. Municipality located in the valley, between the San Vicente and Gredos mountain ranges, it offers a natural landscape of Mediterranean forest with holm oaks, oaks and cork oaks where visitors can take advantage of the various hiking trails that run through the municipality and admire the beautiful natural surroundings. Routes that can be done on foot, by bicycle or on horseback, as the town has an equestrian centre that allows us to diversify rural tourism activities.

What to see?

Parish Church of Santa María de la Oliva (16th c.)

It is a three-nave church with a slender tower and an arcaded entrance, all dating from the 16th century, in a late Gothic style. The chancel was built around 1580, imitating that of the neighbouring town of Navamorcuende. They followed the designs of Pedro de Tolosa, the stonemasonry surveyor of the works at El Escorial. The church is a monument included in the inventory of Heritage of Regional Interest of the Province of Toledo.


Ermita de la Fuensanta hermitage (19th-20th c.)

It is a practically recent construction, dating from between the 19th and 20th centuries. It has a single rectangular nave and a flat roof, but what really stands out is a small fountain on its north wall, from which crystal-clear water flows. These waters are said to have medicinal properties.

Town Hall (18th c.)

It stands out among the civilian buildings as it dates back to 1791. It is located in the Plaza de España and its façade was built in masonry with granite masonry, featuring four magnificent arches.

Roman Bridge

Located on the road to the town of Casavieja in the province of Avila, it is included as a monument in the inventory of Heritage of Regional Interest in the Province of Toledo. It is a bridge of Roman origin formed by a single span with a semicircular arch that allows it to ford the River Tiétar.

Medieval Bridge

It is a fountain for communal use located in the meadow known as El Ejido, an area of common pasture. It was built during the 17th-18th centuries in the Baroque style, with a stone wall topped by a triangular pediment with pinnacles.
