The municipality is located in a fertile plain dominated by two small mountain ranges or hills on the right and left that slightly uneven the plain of the municipality. Fields of cereal crops dominate the plain, which is criss-crossed by different paths that allow the visitor to enjoy easy and simple walks or bike rides.

The settlement of its lands dates back to the Bronze Age, as shown by the archaeological site of Ontalba, although it was a discontinuous settlement over time, as it only survived in Roman times until it disappeared. This municipality, known as Azaña from its beginnings, was founded in the 12th century with the Christian Reconquest. Over the centuries, the urban fabric of the town has a heritage that goes from the 15th century, with its parish church, to the 17th and 18th centuries, with the construction of its hermitage and its old town hall. To walk through its corners, squares and streets is to discover the evolution of the villages of this region, where the past contrasts with the present, the visitor will be able to enjoy the traditional village life and its tranquillity together with the services offered by the large towns of Sagrera. The town is known by its original name, Azaña, which may come from the Arab period but is mentioned in the 12th century. However, it was not until the 20th century, after the Spanish Civil War, that it changed its name to Numancia de la Sagra.

What to see?

Parish Church of Ntra. Sra. de la Asunción

It must have been built in the first half of the 15th century, although the appearance it has today is the result of the various interventions that took place during the Baroque period. The baptismal font, which is still in use today, dates from the 15th century.

Old town hall

Between 1890 and 1891 the construction of the town hall was carried out with an approved budget of 6,788 pesetas. One of the elements that characterise this town hall building is the clock tower, a winding and pulley model made by the clockmaker Mr. Canseco.

Hermitage of Santa Juana

Built by popular subscription in the second half of the 17th century on the site of the house where Santa Juana de la Cruz, abbess of the convent of Santa Juana, was born in Cubas de la Sagra (15th-16th century).

Archaeological site of Ontalba

In 2007, an exhibition was held on the archaeological excavations carried out at these two sites in the municipality of Numancia de la Sagra, showing the findings related to burials and a Bronze Age settlement (culture of the bell-shaped vase).
