The origin of its name is due to one of its repopulators, the knight Nuño Gómez, who was in these lands in the second half of the 12th century. It is possible that he accompanied Alfonso VI in the conquest of the Tagus valley, and later stayed in these parts.

The repopulation begun by Nuño Gómez, the conqueror, began in 1088 and continued throughout the 12th century. In 1393, the village was already part of the jurisdiction of the town of El Castillo de Bayuela, following the incidents of this lordship. It belonged to the lordships of Ruy López de Arévalo, Don Álvaro de Luna, the Countess of Infantado, the Mendozas and the Marquises of Montesclaros. It was emancipated, with the power of the then feudal Duke of Hijar, in 1655, when the town became a villa.

The town of Nuño Gómez is located in the surroundings of the Alberche river valley, at the easternmost point of the San Vicente mountain range. Natural environment with an ideal attraction for hiking excursions. It is a splendid place to visit in spring and autumn and to enjoy the seasonal colours and even to be able to harvest the fruits that the countryside has to offer, thanks to its privileged temperature and humidity.
