Inhabited since Palaeolithic times, it has been occupied throughout the passage of different cultures, as evidenced by the remains of the Roman settlement of the "Olihuelas" or the remains of the Arab period reflected in a wall of the mosque that is preserved in the back of the parish church of San Pedro Apóstol, a monument of the fourteenth century. Although the town began to take shape as we know it today in the 12th century, it was not until the 14th century that the urban centre was established with the construction of its main monument and several noble mansions scattered around the centre of the municipality. In the 18th century it gained its independence as a town, a century in which the town's hermitage was built. To walk through its urban centre is to recall that historical past, where important nobles from Toledo resided in this town, as the capital of the empire was very close to this town, and even some kings passed through this municipality on their travels throughout the country. It preserves its village essence and invites you to enjoy its rural flavour contrasted with the new constructions and urbanisations that have been transforming its urban fabric. Streets with a real traditional personality, with stone and brick buildings, popular architecture in streets that lead here and there to secluded squares, a walk that will not leave the visitor indifferent.
Olías del Rey is located on two hills and a valley, its lands are characterised by being a land of contrasts where the visitor, when travelling along its paths and routes, both on foot and by bicycle, will discover everything from cultivated fields and plains to gently undulating areas with pine forests and Mediterranean undergrowth, small forests with large holm oaks that create an environmental setting of great scenic value.

What to see?
Mudejar-Neoclassical-Herrerian style. Its construction began in the 14th century and lasted for 200 years. Among its various alterations and extensions, the one carried out in 1624 and 1662 stands out. The last renovation was carried out between 1973 and 2000, where original parts covered with plaster were uncovered, and several chapels and rooms were built. The church tower is in the Mudejar-Herreresque style, made of stone and brick. It is 30 metres high and was built under the direction of the architect Alonso de Covarrubias.
The building consists of a single nave, a flat apse with a semicircular triumphal arch next to the entrance at the foot. It is of popular style and dates back to the 18th century. From the outside you can see the stone composition and the bell tower. The chapel is located in the southern part of the old town, next to the Arenal road.
