A FESTIVAL FOR PILGRIMS TO THE SANCTUARY OF THE CHRIST OF URDA BETWEEN 27 SEPTEMBER AND 1 OCTOBER 2024, THE JUBILEE YEAR OF THIS IMPORTANT PILGRIMAGE.

The town of Urda in Toledo celebrates between September 27th and October 1st its “fair”, the festivities for the Santísimo Cristo de la Vera Cruz de Urda. Pilgrimage and pilgrimage to the Sanctuary, in a multitudinous processional ceremony that accompanies the baroque carving of Luis de Villoldo, from the beginning of the 16th century.

With a marked penitential character, the main festivity is celebrated on September 28th and 29th. The first includes the procession to the church, which will house the carving until the following day. On the morning of the 29th, after the high mass, the Christ of Urda is returned to its sanctuary.

These are dates when all the children of Urda who are scattered in different places return to their village. Together with them, the call of Jesus Christ brings together thousands of pilgrims from La Mancha and many other places in Spain who visit the Sacred Image these days, all of them being well received and welcomed.

A devotion that is well established in our province and whose next jubilee years are this year jubilee years are this year 2024 and the next 2030 and 2041.

A FAIR OF MARKED RELIGIOUS FERVOR WHERE THERE IS ROOM FOR RECREATIONAL EVENTS TO COMPLETE THIS FESTIVITY SO WELL KNOWN IN URDA AND SURROUNDINGS.

Listening to the municipal band of music, which runs at certain times the streets of the town and hearing it is inevitable to think that Urda, in those days tastes like fairs and pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of the Cristo de la Vera Cruz. During these days, there are many local volunteers who collaborate to assist the pilgrims and visitors who come to see the St. John the Baptist. Christ.

Having some “gambitas”, some eggplants from Almagro and some churros with chocolates is something essential for any neighbor and visitor. Walking through the village, with great atmosphere, stalls of the most varied goods and bars of all kinds is to enjoy a “fair” in a long and leisurely stroll.

A DEVOTION THAT ATTRACTS THOUSANDS OF PILGRIMS TO ACCOMPANY THE CHRIST OF URDA ON HIS MOST IMPORTANT FEAST DAY

Weeks before the big day, many pilgrims are seen on the roads and access roads to the town, and whose main goal is to prostrate themselves at the feet of the image of St. John the Baptist. Christ of Urda, to pray before HIM, to pray for some cause, to fulfill a promise, to give thanks, etc.
