SINS AND DANCERS OF CAMUÑAS

A FESTIVAL DECLARED OF TOURIST INTEREST THAT WILL TAKE PLACE IN CAMUÑAS BETWEEN THE 7TH AND 11TH OF JUNE.

During the Mass, the Sins wait outside. At the beginning of the procession, they attack amidst gunpowder fire and shouts, until they are humiliated. Next, the Danzantes, to the sound of music, perform the dance of the cord.

TWO GROUPS, SIN AND DANCERS, APPEAR WITH AN IMPOSING COSTUME THAT GIVES COLOR TO THIS PARTICULAR AND COLORFUL RELIGIOUS FESTIVITY.

In the one of the Sins, with mask and long rod, red and black predominate: they are evil. The Danzantes, in masks and white clothes, are the joy and the good.

A TRADITION OF SYMBOLIC SGNFICATION BASED ON THE AUTOS SACRAMENTALES AND DRAMATIC WORKS OF THE GOLDEN CENTURY

The different masks and variants of dress in Pecados and Danzantes represent different characters, such as “El Pecado Mayor” who, wearing a pig mask, represents the devil, the “Judío Mayor” (the blindness of faith), “El Capitán” (charity), “El Alcalde” (hope), “El Tambor” (temperance), “La Porra” (fortitude), or “la Madama” who goes through the procession and gathers the Danzantes to form a long column behind her. Thus, the festival acquires the symbolic meaning of the autos sacramentales and dramatic works of the Golden Age, with the peculiarity that the entire representation is performed without words.

A CORPUS CHRISTI WITH DANCES AND PERFORMANCES FROM THE 16TH AND 17TH CENTURIES.

The procession moves slowly through the streets of the town, impregnating the atmosphere with its aromas, its baroque evocation and its devotion. Along the way, the impetuous races of the sins that will be stopped at the height of the banner and its ambassadors again and again until the end of time, as it is written. In the wake of the procession, incense and gunpowder vie for air space.
