Its lands have been populated since prehistoric times, Celtiberians and Romans would continue to settle in its territory, but it was not until the 13th century that the current town was founded. The 16th century was the turning point for this town, which became independent as a village during its period of splendour. To stroll through its streets is to enjoy the harmony and tranquillity of village life, to enjoy its traditional flavour and the deep-rooted customs of yesteryear, with popular architecture that has shaped its urban fabric, where the parish church of Santa Ana stands out.

Villanueva de Bogas has an almost flat territory with an abundance of olive groves and vineyards. Its landscape is fully Manchegan, especially in the southeast of the municipality, while in the western area, however, the riverside vegetation of the Algodor river provides a different horizon and a lot of greenery, which is joined by part of the Finisterre reservoir, a reservoir that provides an environment of vegetation characteristic of the Mediterranean undergrowth, its banks are an ideal place for sport fishing. This town is crossed by the important Way of St. James from the southeast, making it an obligatory pilgrimage route, which, together with other routes and paths, allows visitors to enjoy the La Mancha plain and its traditional and natural idiosyncrasy.
