ORGAZ SPRING FESTIVAL

A FESTIVAL DEDICATED TO WOMEN ORGACEÑA AND TO THE VIRGEN DEL SOCORRO, PATRON SAINT OF THE TOWN, WHICH WILL TAKE PLACE ON DAYS 12th, 13th Y 14th MAY

A day to enjoy the folklore of Orgaceño (crafts, traditions, etc.); and its culture (music, theatre, literature, popular architecture, etc.) that come together in this colourful festival.

Since its beginnings, the people of Orgaceño have been looking back to the past in order to look forward to the future, They enjoy its historical heritage, its illustrious personalities, etc. but also the intangible heritage that has survived to the present day: the wisdom of the people, their traditions and folklore.

FESTIVAL DECLARED OF REGIONAL TOURIST INTEREST IN THE YEAR 2019 COINCIDING WITH ITS 50th EDITION

It is a month in which Mary is exalted as a figure that embodies the values of spring; the town of Orgaz honours its patron saint, the Virgen del Socorro and “Doña Jimena”, an outstanding woman of the reconquest, in the figure of a young girl from Orgaz;

It was the Hermandad de la Virgen de El Socorro which instituted and promoted in the sixties of the 20th century the celebration of this festivity, which has become deeply rooted in the population. It is now celebrated with great participation and enthusiasm from the people of Orgaceños;

SPRING FESTIVAL WITH ROOTS ANCHORED IN THE DEVOTION OF THE ORGACEANS FOR THE VIRGIN OF THE SOCORRO AND THE LOCAL POPULAR TRADITIONS

Festive days containing unique details in keeping with the history and landscape of the Villa de Orgaz; For this reason, it was decided that the first lady would not be a Queen but DOÑA JIMENA and that her companions would wear the typical costumes of Orgaz;

The radiant whiteness of the facades and the lime tradition of this municipality were the basis of the slogan ‘ORGAZ, AZUCENA DE CASTILLA’.

The Castle, an incomparable and most suitable setting, welcomes the procession of Doña Jimena descending from the Torre del Homenaje to preside over the ceremonies in its Patio de Armas;

The Templo Parroquial has been the setting in other years for unforgettable classical music concerts, while in the Teatro Calderón, today the site of the Casas Consistoriales, theatrical performances were given by the local theatre group.

The two editions of the Spring Song Festival in the Bullring, the traditional costume and decorated façade competitions, the White Voices Choirs and other performances put the icing on the cake of those Festivities, making up a magnificent symphony of light and colour, of granite and lime, of typicality and tradition; It is Orgaz, when Orgaz is Orgaz;

BETWEEN LEGEND AND TRADITION, THE FIGURE OF DOÑA JIMENA HAS BEEN LINKED TO THE VILLAGE OF ORGAZ;

Every year, during the Spring Festival, an elected young woman, in her coming of age, is proclaimed “Doña Jimena”; Next to her a Court of Honour enhances the homage of a whole town to the “orgaceña woman”;

In Doña Jimena and her Court of Honour, the women of Orgaz express the important role they have played for generations in the progress and development of their town;
