After its conquest in 1085 by Alfonso VI, Toledo became a crossroads of three cultures and an example of coexistence between Muslims, Jews and Christians. Later, King Alfonso X “The Wise” guaranteed the rights of Muslims, Jews and Arabised Christians living in the city, thus initiating a pioneering trial of tolerance. Toledo thus became the city of the three cultures. Strolling through its streets is to relive this period of splendour, through its most emblematic buildings.
