THE FRANCISQUETE OF CAMUÑAS

DURING AUGUST 3, 4 AND 5, 2023 CAMUÑAS CELEBRATES THE OATH OF THE GUERRILLA TO RECREATE THE UPRISING OF “TIO CAMUÑAS” AGAINST THE FRENCH IN THE WAR OF INDEPENDENCE.

This Recreation was baptized with the name of “El Juramento de Guerrillero”, and it shows, through various acts, the events that took place in this town and that led Francisco Sánchez Fernández “El Tío Camuñas” to take up arms against the French army and to lead one of the most important guerrilla parties of the central peninsular area, being named, during the conflict, Lieutenant Colonel of the Húsares Francos de Camuñas.

A DAY FULL OF HISTORY AND FUN ACTIVITIES TO COMMEMORATE A HISTORICAL EVENT THAT WOULD MARK THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS TOWN AND ITS SURROUNDINGS IN THIS CONFLICT.

In these days of recreation will not only include historical recreation but also a whole set of activities and actions aimed at providing the right environment, so that both the audience and guests (reenactors, speakers, etc.) find in Camuñas a pleasant and welcoming space where everyone, in their own way, can be returned in time and enjoy this time of those tumultuous years, at the dawn of the nineteenth century, in which we were immersed in what was baptized as the War of Independence.

THE HISTORY IN YOUR SENSES TO ENJOY CAMUÑAS, A MANCHEGAN VILLAGE WITH A MATERIAL AND IMMATERIAL HERITAGE THAT WILL NOT LEAVE ANY VISITOR INDIFFERENT.

Camuñas is located in the foothills of the Cabeza Gorda mountain, in the region of La Mancha. A small town that has a very special charm, and is widely known for its traditional festivities.

At the beginning of the 19th century the French invasion took place, from which a movement against the invader arose, in the form of guerrillas, with the municipality having as a historical representative of this time the uncle Camuñas. In his honor, the first weekend of August is celebrated the feast of Francisquete emulating how Uncle Camuñas fought against the French.

Another festival that visitors should not miss is the original Corpus Christi, which has its hallmark in the representation of its Sins and Dancers, who accompany the procession on its route and has been declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest and Intangible Cultural Interest.

A DAY OF HISTORICAL RECREATION THAT CELEBRATES ITS XVI EDITION TO DELIGHT NEIGHBORS AND VISITORS

The Cultural Association La Partida de Camuñas and the City Council of Camuñas organize the events that will make us travel back in time: to the early nineteenth century, a time when our illustrious countryman Francisco Sanchez Fernandez is proclaimed as one of the most influential Spanish guerrillas in the repression of the French invading army.

With this set of acts, Camuñas tries to evoke theatrically some events, which despite being related to the war, are only intended as an initiative to maintain peace and harmony among its citizens and visitors. We are sure that you will not be disappointed and that you will find in this small town a great motivation to get to know your roots.
